In my early days, I created “spec work” (fake projects based on real brands) to build my portfolio and learn skills. And oh boy, did it pay off! To this day, I still do the occasional free project if I love the brand and want to get a foot in the door. Nothing big, but just something to give them a taste of what it’s like to work with me.
